Slumber without sorrow:
dental sleep medicine.
Restful and healthy sleep is extremely important for health, well-being and performance.
If it is accompanied by snoring, others may be disturbed. If your sleep is also disturbed by teeth grinding or restricted oxygen supply (sleep apnoea), this can result in high blood pressure, cardiac arrhythmia, depression and other illnesses. Then it gets serious. Fortunately, there is a remedy: with our dental sleep therapy.
If your sleep is disturbed by snoring, others may be disturbed - and your throat is slightly red. OK, you get over it, but others next to you can't get any rest. That puts you in a bad mood in the morning. Fortunately, there is a remedy: with our dental anti-snoring splints.
Our anti-snoring splints are special dental occlusal splints that position your lower jaw in such a way that the airflow into the windpipe is improved. This is because the sound of snoring originates in the throat, where soft tissue relaxes during sleep and then "flutters" in the airflow. People who snore do not give the air enough air...
Our dental anti-snoring splints keep your airways clear and thus prevent snoring. To do this, we need jaw models of your upper and lower teeth. And a measurement of your jaw position at rest and in the position in which snoring no longer occurs. Peace at last - because the majority of our patients who wear these anti-snoring splints for third parties only report more relaxed sleep afterwards. Make an appointment...
If your sleep is impaired by restricted oxygen supply (sleep apnoea), cardiac arrhythmia, depression, high blood pressure and premature ageing of your brain can be the result. According to current guidelines, dental sleep therapy is the treatment of choice in mild and moderate stages.
Those affected often do not notice this at first, but are more tired during the day. Special tests can be used to assess whether you probably have a restricted oxygen supply (sleep apnoea) during sleep. In this case, we consult a sleep medicine practice in accordance with the guidelines and determine whether you really suffer from sleep apnea. The sleep medicine practice will determine your oxygen supply during sleep. If this is inadequate, you need treatment - before any consequential damage occurs.
Fortunately, in most cases sleep apnea is mild or moderate. In this case, treatment with a sleep mask is not necessary and we can help you: Using a special occlusal splint, we can keep your airways clear and work with you to find a solution that allows you to breathe freely at night. To make sure that your treatment really achieves its goal, we have the success checked by the Practice for Sleep Medicine in accordance with the guidelines. Sleep well!
We are also there for you during treatment with an anti-snoring splint or a splint for sleep apnea and monitor your temporomandibular joint function.
As part of dental treatment for snoring or sleep apnea, your lower jaw position must be adjusted so that the airways remain clear. After removing the mandibular advancement splint, however, your jaw should be positioned as it was before. We will provide you with a positioning aid that you can use briefly after sleep.
The function of your temporomandibular joints should also be checked at regular intervals. Why? Because every medical treatment has side effects as well as effects. Treatment with ventilation masks to be worn during sleep can cause dry corneas in your eyes and your face will be marked in the morning. It is not without reason that the majority of patients do not wear such masks permanently. This is much better with the dental splint. However, it is important to check the function of the temporomandibular joint. We are specialists in this.
Even if you have been fitted with a mandibular advancement splint at another dental practice, we will be happy to check whether your bite is still correct and your temporomandibular joint continues to function correctly.
