Orthodontics - so that your teeth fit your jaw joints again

For patients with craniomandibular dysfunction (CMD), we usually achieve a substantial improvement or complete elimination of the symptoms. This is exactly what we are here for, and why so many dental practices refer their CMD patients to us for examination and treatment.

If it becomes apparent during the course of treatment that the position of the teeth has played a significant role in the development of the problem, the question of subsequent orthodontic correction of the tooth position arises.

Such situations are usually complicated for orthodontics because, on the one hand, teeth have to be moved, but on the other hand, not all teeth can be moved under any circumstances, as otherwise the positional relationship of the jaws and therefore the position of the temporomandibular joints can no longer be understood. Fortunately, orthodontics has undergone great leaps in development in recent years, so that new treatment techniques are now available that are much better suited to such situations. To this end, we work closely with the Polyclinic for Orthodontics at the UKE and other leading orthodontists and accompany their orthodontic follow-up treatments with functional therapy. We are also actively involved in the further development of orthodontic treatment techniques as part of research collaborations.
