Your specialists for CMD, teeth grinding and tooth wear
Welcome to the CMD specialists in Hamburg-Eppendorf. We are delighted that you are interested in our practice, which specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of CMD, teeth grinding (bruxism) and tooth wear.
We were the first practice in Germany to specialize in this area and have many years of experience and the specialist knowledge to treat you successfully. Our practice founder, Priv.-Doz. Dr. M. Oliver Ahlers, and his experienced colleagues Tim Petersen and Dr. Lukasz Katzer have successfully treated a large number of patients with complex problems. We are constantly expanding our expertise through our own developments and scientific studies; our new colleague Jakob C. Röhl is actively involved in this.
Due to this expertise, we have been actively involved in the development of almost all scientific guidelines in our field of dentistry; the guideline “All-ceramic restorations” was even adopted in our offices. We are also currently involved in the development of numerous guidelines. This knowledge, combined with our specialized equipment, provides us with optimal opportunities to restore your health according to the current state of dental research.
As a result, a normal year at the CMD Center Hamburg-Eppendorf looks like this:
Specialists for CMD, bruxism and tooth wear
In addition to our founder PD Dr. M. Oliver Ahlers, you will be treated by our CMD specialists Tim Petersen, Dr. Lukasz Katzer and Jakob Röhl. All four of them come from the dental clinic at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, where they specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of CMD, bruxism and tooth wear. And it doesn’t matter who is looking after you: You are always in the very best hands!
Symptoms of CMD, bruxism and tooth wear
- The focus here is on functional disorders of the masticatory organ (craniomandibular dysfunction or “CMD”). Typical symptoms of CMD are pain and functional restrictions. Pain caused by CMD affects the masticatory muscles, the temporomandibular joints and/or the teeth themselves. Functional restrictions include disorders of jaw movement, clicking or rubbing of the jaw joints and/or disorders of the occlusion.
- Teeth grinding and/or clenching (“bruxism”) is also important in connection with CMD. This leads to overloading of the teeth and the periodontium, the masticatory muscles and the temporomandibular joints. The consequences are CMD, loosening of the teeth and tooth wear.
- Tooth wear causes the teeth to lose contour and height and they break (fracture). This changes the occlusion and can result in functional disorders in the form of CMD.
Many dentists entrust their patients to us
The majority of our patients come to us on referral from other dentists – more than 2000 practices trust us and refer more than 600 of their patients every year for the diagnosis and treatment of CMD, bruxism and tooth wear. Each of our specialized dentists therefore treats as many patients as the special consultation hours of some large university dental clinics.
